Backstory:
Lily Kwan, who was walking her Yorkie alone on the sidewalk suddenly noticed a wild Coyote approaching them. She immediately shouted for help as she knew the dangers of these wild animals.
Lily was already on edge as she had seen recent warnings of coyotes chasing people in the area, especially children.
“I thought, am I next, what is going to happen to me?” Kwan said.
Once the coyote gave chase, Lily ran for her life trying to get her Yorkie, Macy to follow her.
Eventually she dropped the leash as Macy wasn’t fast enough and couldn’t follow her!
Macy stopped, turned around and defended Lily from the coyote with her life.

“She’s a super brave dog; I love her so much, and I just thought this tiny dog could protect this huge human being, trying to fight off this huge coyote,” Kwan said.
Macy the Yorkie is in Intensive Care after the coyote encounter. She is undergoing surgeries as she had multiple deep puncture wounds.
We shouldn’t be quick to judge the 10-year-old for not picking up the Yorkie – would any of us have done any differently being 10 years old and scared for our life?
“My dog would do anything for our family, so I’m actually not surprised that she did that,” Dorothy Kwan, Lily’s mother said.
There is a fundraiser for Macy the Yorkie which you can donate to here.
Dorothy Kwan has expressed frustration with the fact that no one is trapping the coyotes that are terrorizing the neighbourhood.
On the bright side though, Macy the Yorkie is expected to recover fully.
“She’s our little hero.” said Dorothy Kwan.
